Styling a Cottagecore inspired Boudoir Photoshoot

Just for fun, I thought it would be fun to style some different “aesthetics” for a boudoir session in case you’re planning a photoshoot and need some inspiration! A disclaimer: it’s 2024 and there are a thousand aesthetics, some of this could overlap another style or fall into another category, just don’t worry about it, tailor it to your own style and have fun with it! We’re also not diving into any of the philosophy or politics of these looks, I’d love to write a dissertation but we’ll leave that for another time and just focus on the visuals and how they translate to photography. 🍓

What we’ll cover:

🍓 What is the Cottagecore Aesthetic? 🍓

In a bit of contrast to my previous blog post on the Coquette aesthetic, which is distinctly more pink, ultra feminine and definitely a little flirty, Cottagecore is a softer and more natural look. Still a very feminine aesthetic, but it draws inspiration from simpler times, activities like tending the garden, baking bread, pressing flowers, and probably frolicking in flowering fields are part of the whimsical daydream that is Cottagecore. Dreamy lighting, outdoorsy/natural elements, flowers, victorian lace and long flowing dresses are staples of this look. The color palette typically consists of muted tones, pastels, and earthier hues that evoke a sense of tranquility and warmth. Lighting is soft and diffused, enhancing the ethereal quality of the images and creating a dreamlike atmosphere. Poses are often relaxed and candid, conveying a sense of intimacy and authenticity.

Cottagecore boudoir sessions offer a unique experience, merging the timeless charm of pastoral life with the empowerment of self-expression. This style is perfect for those looking to capture a moment that feels both personal and enchanting, celebrating every woman's unique beauty in a nurturing and aesthetically pleasing environment.

Key Elements to bring some cottagecore to your session:

🌿🌷🍎🍀 Baby’s breath flowers, daisies, violets, wildflowers, lush, overgrowing greenery 🌱

🌻 Soft, flowing dresses, usually white or a delicate flower pattern, natural fabric like cotton, linen, embroidery, crochet, and lace. 🌸

🥞 Elements like baking, crafts, any other slow living hobbies are staples of this vibe 🍯 🥧

🌻🍄A field or little grove of trees or a lush backyard with flowers would be dreamy and incredible for this style (if you have one in mind, let me know! I’d love to photograph this look somewhere fun!)☘️🍃

Finishing Touches for a Cottagecore Photoshoot -

Accessories & Nails

The lingerie is a good start, but to really sell the whole aesthetic, especially this one, it’s all about the extras. Add a bow (or two!) to your hair, pack on the flowers, grab a cardigan, and sip some tea, bring in your knitting project or just pick some wild flowers. Here are some ideas!
